The 2nd steering committee meeting of the Newton-Khalidi Fund was held on 29 Nov 2018 at the Higher Council for Science and Technology in the presence H.E. the Secretary General of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, Dr Khaled El-Shuraydeh and H.E. the British Ambassador to Jordan, Edward Oakden CMG. Other members of the steering committee include Dr Hanan Malkawi, Vice President for Science Engagement, Royal Scientific Society and representatives of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. The purpose of this meeting is to review progress on implementation of the Newton-Khalidi Fund since its launch on the 7th of November 2017 at the World Science Forum in the presence of HRH Prince ElHassan bin Talal and HRH Princess Sumaya bint ElHassan and to set strategic direction for future activities. The Newton-Khalidi Fund promotes research, innovation and cooperation between Jordan and the UK. Programmes launched so far include the Industry Academia Partnership Programme ( Royal Academy of Engineering with the Industrial Research and Development Fund), the Researcher Links Workshop Programme (British Council with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research and partnering universities), and Research on Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development ( Arts and Humanities research Council with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research and partnering universities. AHRC also worked closely with Department of Antiquities, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Jordan Museum in developing this call for proposals).
